About this job

Being an Architect or Technologist is Okay… being a BIM Manager might be better. It’s a job that crosses disciplines. An Architectural professional is limited to working in practices, the odd multidisciplinary role might pop up or very, very occasionally a developer job. But the reality is, that a BIM Manager with an Architectural background has much broader opportunities. Even when those multidisciplinary and developer jobs come up. There’s more need for them in contractors, housebuilders, other disciplines like Structures, MEP and proper Consultancies… You could end up in one of the big consultants or contractors, earning three times the advertised salary in not too many years. You might move into an Information Management job, Data, Project Management or anything within the Digital world. That’s just what the future could look like. Right now, if you were the BIM lead for this Multi-dis, you’d enjoy a smaller bonus, it’s only 10% of salary. Only enough for one all inclusive 5 star holiday this year. You’d have to save up for another one. Probably not too much of a problem on that basic to be fair. Annoyingly your annual pay increase will only be between 5% - 7%. Although it was closer to 20% for everyone last year. There is a built-in promotion there too. Again, it might take a year or two to become the BIM Director. An annoying wait. There’s no overtime either. But there is loads of flexibility, and 3 weeks of the month the place is empty before 3pm on a Friday. The other week they have an optional party at the bar… the office bar, where you can enjoy a full on draft Guinness, or any wine or spirit and hang out with the teams and disciplines you don’t necessarily see that often. There’s loads of social events though, it’s the easiest place to make proper mates at work.   What you need:
  • You don’t even need to be a BIM Manager or Coordinator to take this job on.
  • Just an Architectural professional (Architect, Tech, Assistant…) with a love and good knowledge of collaborative BIM.
  • You could do with having a good idea of managing and mentoring day to day BIM tasks.
  • If you do have experience and knowledge on the strategy side then this will be a great big bonus and you’re more likely to achieve the upper end of the salary.
