About this job
The career ladder is slippery in Architecture. You give up all kinds of personal (and
worse), family time trying to climb it. Even if you did reach the top, it’s often not worth it?
Not financially and not from a work life balance point of view.
But you could have as much Working from home as you can handle, loads of holidays (up to 33
days + Bank Holidays), circa £4k in annual bonuses, and never work a minute over your
contracted hours. All whilst being well paid.
Whether it’s because you’re wanting to protect some of that ‘Me’ time or you feel you're not a
big enough part of the kids' lives, you wouldn’t need to sacrifice anything to get the guaranteed
route to the top if you worked here, and there’s still no overtime, even when you get there.
You’d lead a department focussed on Police, Fire and Ambulance buildings from day one, in
preparation for a move into a national ‘Head of’ / Director job over the next few years. It’s a built
in agreement, a proper development plan. It’s not just pipe dreams, it’s already an established
national practice, others have trodden this path before in a similar way.
You’d be guaranteeing a better salary now (and a nice payout in bonus once or twice a year to
pay for your holidays) too. The ladder would be slip resistant, nobody will ever be introduced to
take over your sector as long as you’re there. Directors are only made internally. What more
guarantee can you have?
If you’ve got team members you want to bring over there’s a £1000 a time finders fee you’d get.
That could significantly increase the bonus.
All of the perks, none of the risks. Don’t risk your career with the Devil you know if you’re doing
Blue Light as a sector right now. Guarantee your advancement.
What you’ll be doing
Project lead and main client account manager for the sector in the North.
No business development, it's all bidding, as they’re on all of the frameworks and have
professionals in place to help with this, the stress of it is minimal.
Presenting schemes to clients and authorities.
Leading design and delivery teams throughout the larger projects.
Managing the Job Runners and Project Managers for the smaller projects rather than running
them directly.
Contributing to the practice nationally in the policy and direction they’re going in, both in your
sector and in general.
What you’ll need
Qualified Architectural Professional.
Experience in Blue Light (Ambulance, Fire Stations, Police, Justice).
Already operating as a Senior Architect or Associate.
