About this job
Every Architect, Technician and Technologist used to look at Design Manager jobs as
their easy way out.
The problem was. The Contractors would only look back with suspicion most of the time.
But what’s the point in bothering with Design Manager jobs now? When this Construction
Consultancy (and others like it) want you in their team, in a BRPD advisory job?
You could do it for an Architectural practice. But there’s not even any extra money in it for you.
Instead you’d be doing it on the side, adding to the workload you’ve already got, for what?
If you worked for this Consultancy there’d be no more doing overtime, no more worrying about
your job security, no more wondering if you can transfer to a different discipline or if you’ll get
out of Architecture one day.
You’d also be on a different payscale altogether, where junior people earn £40k. Seniors earn
£65k. Where it wouldn’t take you long to make it to Senior anyway.
There’s no overtime to do, and there’s a significant annual bonus, plenty of opportunities to
move up the ladder (in fact they’ll push you up as fast as you’re able to go).
What you’ll be doing
Acting as principal design advisor. That means advising the duty holder, and completing some
tasks on their behalf.
Learning and working on systems, trackers and spreadsheets to keep yourself organised.
Helping clients understand their responsibilities and being part of the lead consulting team.
Auditing and managing technical work, specifications and risk.
What you’ll need
Already an Architectural professional.
Be used to presenting well in a client facing capacity.
Technical experience and knowledge.
Knowledge of Building Regulations. If you don’t know something though, you know where to
look.
